New GRE Question Types

(7/20/2007) ETS has announced that, beginning in November 2007, individuals taking the computer-adaptive GRE will begin encountering two new questions types. ETS, in the wake of its announcement last April that it had decided not to completely overhaul the GRE all at once, has explained that these two new question types are part of a more gradual redesign of the exam that they will slowly roll out over the next few years.

ETS explains that the new verbal question type expands Sentence Completions into Text Completions. These questions will present a passage that requires the test-taker to fill in two or three blanks from separate multiple-choice lists.

The new quantitative question type, dubbed Numeric Entry, will require test-takers to enter their answer as a number into a single box. Alternately, the user might have to enter the answer as a fraction into two separate boxes – one for the numerator and one for the denominator.

ETS explains that beginning in November, “test takers may see ONE new Verbal question or ONE new Quantitative question or no new questions at all. No test taker will receive more than ONE new question. The new question types are part of the first phase of the General Test improvements that will be introduced gradually over time.”

In light of this announcement, Swyft Learning has redesigned it curriculum, updating its materials with new assignments and lessons to ensure that our student continue to excel at the GRE.
